Autumn Tree Craft With Pasta

Making an autumn tree craft with pasta is a fun and creative craft activity to do in this colourful season.

Children can play with different textures and shapes while creating this lovely fall tree. Ideal as a preschool craft activity as well.

This hands on activity also helps improve fine motor skills.

Autumn tree craft with pasta

It took some time to finish this craft as we needed to paint the pasta with autumn colours. Painting and drying take time. Other than that, this is a pretty easy 15-minute craft to do for a 5 year old with minimal support and a 3 year old with some support and guidance.

It only requires pasta, pipe cleaners and other basic craft supplies. After colouring the pasta, we decided to make an autumn tree in two ways.

So let’s get into it.

Here is the list of supplies you need to make this beautiful autumn tree

  • Pasta (Penne)

  • Ziplock bags
  • Cardstock paper
  • Craft foam or packaging foam (for the 2nd craft)
  • Hot glue / Paint brush

How To Make The Autumn Tree Craft

Autumn Tree On A Paper

You need to colour the pasta before you begin as it takes some time to dry. We started this by splitting the pasta into 4 groups (we did 4 colours, red, orange, yellow and a mix of orange and yellow).

Then put them into 4 Ziplock bags and add a tiny bit of paint and a drop of water into each bag. We used acrylic paint but water colours can be as good as acrylic paint.

Shake the bags well to mix with water.

Place all the pasta on a plastic sheet and let them dry.

After all the pasta is fully dried, place them into the pipe cleaners. We used similar colour pipe cleaners. Next, glue the edge of pipe cleaners (tree branches) on to cardstock paper.

We also cut a grass shaped piece of paper and added it to the base. Which is a nice addition to this autumn tree craft.

You will also need to glue the other end of the branches to the paper to keep them from falling.

Here is the final look of this easy craft.

Autumn Tree With Craft Foam

For the next craft, you need a small craft foam piece as the root. We painted it with brown acrylic paint to make it look like a root.

For this craft, we used half of the length of pipe cleaners (around 6 inches). Full pipe cleaner will not hold the weight of pasta.

Stick the pipe cleaners on to the craft foam and then place the pasta into the pipe cleaners. Use another coloured paper as grass and glue the foam on to the paper.

My daughter suggested sticking some more pasta on it to look like fallen leaves šŸ™‚
