Balloon Games For Kids

1. Balloon Bounce

balloon dance for kids

In an open area, kids must keep a balloon in the air by hitting it with their hands or heads.

Make it a challenge by seeing how many times they can bounce it before it touches the ground.

2. BALLOON TENNIS

Make two paddles using paper plates and sticks, or use a children’s badminton set. Set up a net or a rope as a divider.

Children can hit the balloon back and forth over the net using their paddles, just like in a tennis or badminton game.

This is ideal for elementary school children and older. They will surely have a great time, specially if they enjoy ball games.

3. Balloon Pop Relay

Balloon pop game is a fun group activity to do with balloons.

Divide the kids into teams. Have them race to a designated spot while carrying a balloon between their knees.

Once they reach the spot, they must pop the balloon by sitting on it or squeezing it, then race back to tag the next teammate.

The team that completes the relay the quickest will be the winner.

4. Balloon Stomp

balloon race

Balloon stomp is another fun balloon game for kids.

Tie balloons to the ankles of each child with a string. The children must race to the end, but instead of just running, they must try to pop each other’s balloons while keeping their own safe.

The last one with their balloon intact wins.

5. Balloon Balance Race

This game is also a race.

Kids must balance a balloon on a spoon as they race from one end of the room to the other. Remember not to fully inflate the balloons

If the balloon falls off, they must stop and place it back on the spoon before continuing.

6. Balloon WATER PLAY

water filled balloons hung on a tree

Playing water balloon games with friends is a fun summer activity for kids.

Hang water balloons from a tree branch or a sturdy line using strings.

Blindfold the kids one by one, spin them around, and let them try to burst the balloons with a stick.

Make sure to have plenty of balloons hanging so everyone gets a turn.

7. Hot Potato Balloon

This is a fun group balloon game to play in a classroom. Play like the traditional Hot Potato game, but with a balloon.

Kids sit in a circle and pass the balloon around while music plays. When the music stops, the person holding the balloon is out. The last one to stay will win the game.

8. Balloon Freeze Dance

Play music and have kids dance around with balloons. When the music stops, they should freeze and hold on to their balloons without letting them fall.

If a balloon falls, that person is eliminated. Continue playing the game until only one person is left.

9. Balloon collector RELAY

This is a fun team activity to play in kindergarten or elementary school.

Divide the kids into two (or more) groups. Blow up several balloons and place them on the floor.

Set a timer and send one player from each team to gather as many balloons as possible in a single attempt. When they return, the next team member can go and collect the balloons.

At the end, count which team collected the most balloons.

10. Static Electricity Experiment

Rub a balloon against a wool cloth to create static electricity.

Then, use the charged balloon to attract small pieces of paper or confetti. Talk about how static electricity works and why the balloon attracts the paper.

11. Balloon Rocket Experiment

balloon rocket

Create a simple balloon rocket using a straw, string, and a balloon.

Thread the string through the straw and attach it to two fixed points. Inflate the balloon and release the air, allowing the balloon to propel the straw rocket.

12. Balloon Hovercraft

balloon hovercraft

Turn a balloon into a hovercraft by taping it onto the top of a CD or a plastic bottle cap.
Place the hovercraft on a smooth surface and inflate the balloon. The escaping air will create a cushion of air underneath, allowing the hovercraft to glide smoothly.

13. Balloon Chemical Reactions

Why not use balloons to perform a simple chemical reaction.

Combine baking soda and vinegar to make carbon dioxide. Pour household vinegar into a container or bottle. Place baking soda in a balloon and allow it to drop into the bottle.

The balloon will fill up with carbon dioxide gas.

14. Balloon Solar System

balloon solar system

Create a scale model of the solar system using balloons to represent the planets.

Use different-sized and coloured balloons to represent the various planets and hang them at appropriate distances from a central “sun” balloon.

To make things even better, you can use balloons in different sizes, wrap them with paper pulp, and allow them to dry. Add colour with paint to craft a stunning and long-lasting solar system

15. Balloon Car

Create a mini cardboard car powered by air. Use materials like straws, cardboard, wheels, and, of course, balloons, to design and build a car.

Experiment with different designs to see which one travels farthest or fastest.

16. Balloon-Powered Boat

Similar to the balloon car, design a boat that moves across water using the air from a balloon.

17. Balloon Light Refraction

Inflate a balloon with water and use it as a lens to refract light.

Shine a flashlight through the water-filled balloon and see how the light bends.

18. Balloon Sorting

Inflate balloons in various sizes and colours.

Have kids sort the balloons based on different attributes such as size, colour, or shape.

Benefits Of Playing Balloon Games

Playing with balloons can be beneficial for children.

Balloons can be used in many STEM activities to teach children basic science and math lessons.

When kids play with balloons, they often run, jump, and catch them, which helps develop their motor skills.

These games also develop hand-eye coordination, as kids catch and throw them towards targets.

Things To Remember When Playing With Balloons

Make sure to select eco-friendly balloons for these games.

When playing with balloons, safety should always be a top priority.

It is extremely important to supervise younger children to prevent accidental ingestion or suffocation. Make sure balloons are properly inflated and securely tied to avoid any choking hazards.

Remind children not to put balloons near their faces or mouths to prevent choking or inhalation risks.

When the fun is over, remember to get rid of any popped or deflated balloons to prevent choking hazards.
